Purpose of the project Radiation emitted in the interaction between ultra-high energy charged particles and crystals has been investigated by COHERENT experiment at the external lines of CERN-SPS. As a byproduct of research, a new crystal fabrication methodology, which allows realization of ultra- thin (from a few tens of microns down to submicrometric level) bent and unbent crystals has been developed. Main purpose of this project is the investigation of the radiation emitted by ultrarelativistic electrons in coherent interaction, especially under Volume Reflection (VR) and Multiple Volume Reflection in One Crystal (MVROC) within an unexplored energy range (of the order of a GeV). This energy range is very important because of a wealth of facilities working within this range. If successful, MeV photons can be produced through an electron beam with energy of the order of 1 GeV, i.e., a performance which is not affordable in a synchrotron. Newly developed crystals would allow investigating still more sophisticated effects of radiation in crystals. We thereby propose an experiment aimed at a more detailed understanding of radiation-related phenomena in crystals and at the mechanisms of radiation formation. For examples, the investigation of intriguing phenomena such as the Landau–Pomeranchuk–Migdal (LPM) and Ternovskii-Shul’ga-Fomin (TSF) effects in the case of coherent radiation can be pursued. With this aim, investigations will be carried out in a wide range of particles energies.
