The mechanical and acoustic parameters involved in the structure-borne sound transmission are not easily measureable or calculable for heavy-weight building elements. Their knowledge is essential to use prediction models, such as the one given in the EN 12354 standard or SEA models. In this study the airborne and the structure-borne sound transmission components in residential building were analysed starting from in situ measured data. Results of vibro-acoustic measurements show how the reverberant filed generated in the source room induces vibrational excitation on the separating element. There are significant difference between the velocity levels measured on the building partitions and the sound energy radiated in the receiving rooms. This study highlighted the necessity to develop an in situ measurement method to determine the radiation efficiency of the building elements.
