The paper focuses on the “translation” (in a broad sense) of Sophocles’ Trachiniae: as a prerequisite for a correct translation the main purpose is to understand the historical context and the playwright’s strategy about the reworking of the myth according an etic perspective accompanied, for what is possible, by an emic approach. Some keywords of Deianira’s and Herakles’ linguistic behaviour will be analyzed and the translation of some lines will be made as an example not to betray the ethos of D. These key-words would be translated with the same italian words.
