Abstract Mammography is still the main breast imaging modality for early detection of breast cancer. This chapter reviews the various stages of the imaging chain and explain the specific requirements to optimize image quality and patient dose in mammography. Besides, the aim of this chapter is to provide the reader with the latest information on the so-called advanced applications of digital mammography, such as x-ray tomosynthesis, breast CT, and dual-energy mammography.
