The aim of this work is to carry out a review of the Mesolithic record of the Emilian Apennines and Po Plain by using published and unpublished data which are part of the research in progress by the Authors. A survey of the known deposits has been carried out through an evaluation of their respective cultural attribution (Sauveterrian, Castelnovian, Mesolithic) and topographical location. Sites distribution in this area seems to reflect, not only research biases, but also the specific settlement strategies adopted by hunter-gatherers. These appear strictly related to the peculiar conformation and north-facing orientation of the Emilian Apennines thus showing several differences in comparison to the best known model reconstructed for the southeastern side of the Alps.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to carry out a review of the Mesolithic record of the Emilian Apennines and Po Plain by using published and unpublished data which are part of the research in progress by the Authors. A survey of the known deposits has been carried out through an evaluation of their respective cultural attribution (Sauveterrian, Castelnovian, Mesolithic) and topographical location. Sites distribution in this area seems to reflect, not only research biases, but also the specific settlement strategies adopted by hunter-gatherers. These appear strictly related to the peculiar conformation and north-facing orientation of the Emilian Apennines thus showing several differences in comparison to the best known model reconstructed for the southeastern side of the Alps.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
