Abstract
Icehouses are structures devoted to the stocking of ice and snow collected during the winter, and to be used in the summer for food storage. The advent of domestic refrigerators and their mass distribution has caused these buildings to become obsolete. Icehouses are now in a terrible state of neglect, and if no action is taken, their memory will be lost forever. Therefore, it has become necessary to identify and acknowledge the existing heritage by listing them, conducting direct investigation on the field and creating a database. Bearing the particular characteristics of these structures in mind, the possibilities of repurposing icehouses have been explored. The analysis and study of different options for repurposing and requalification both in Italy and abroad have revealed an interesting potential for targeted contemporary use. The spread of the icehouses on the territory of Bologna would allow the creation of a network of management and tourism promotion in the area. The repurposing of icehouses would be included in local fundings, perpetual maintenance would be facilitated and the citizenship would be able to access them effortlessly. For example, a hypothesis has been formulated for the repurposing of the icehouse from Villa Lambertini Mattei in Bologna. The project is to repurpose the hall as a function room for the neighborhood.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
