We proposed and used magnetic domain walls as easily moveable (by means of remote weak magnetic fields) traps for magnetic nano- and micro-particles. We designed magnetic domain wall conduits, following the guidelines of our own micro-magnetic simulations, and fabricated them by means of electron beam lithography. With these structures, we then demonstrated the actual transport of magnetic particles in liquids with nm-scale precision, solely by means of an externally applied magnetic field, which allowed for remote on-chip operation. More recently, we have developed a process to transfer and integrate our domain wall conduits directly in microfluidic channels defined on a chip.

Abstract
