This contribution offers a brief profile of the architect Eugenio Valzania (Cesena 1880 – Cairo 1930) with the aim of deepening the knowledge on the two periods in which he was operating in Egypt. The treatment is based mainly, where not solely, on the documentation preserved by his heirs. Such a private archive is, however, largely fragmentary. At the same time it must be noted that no consolidated historiography concerning the architect has ever been recorded and these are the reasons why various aspects remain to clarify or check, and in several cases it is not possible to go beyond hypothetical assertions. Nevertheless the research on the private archive preserved by the heirs has disclosed many features of life and work of the architect and, above all, his leadind part in the design of Al-Mursi Abū al-Abbās mosque in Alexandria.
