The general objective of the project is to establish a crossborder network of Slovene and Italian institutions with the aim to improve accessibility and quality of medical care in the area of genetic medicine. Specific objectives will be: 1. To establish a network of genetic institutions on both sides of the border to bring together the clinical and diagnostic expertise and excellence and consequently improve accessibility and quality of genetic medicine in the region. 2. To map functional centers relevant to genetic diseases on both sides of the border and to develop models for free mobility of patients . 3. To establish an integrated informational resource - web site for lay public and patients / families with genetic disorders to facilitate awareness and accessibility to diagnostic, clinical and rehabilitation resources relevant to genetic disorders. 4. To develop remote genetic services in regions without it and to provide best expertise in clinical genetics to patients without need to traveling (patients or professionals) with the use of innovative health information technology (videoconferencing). 5. To improve genetic literacy in professionals and lay public and consequently accessibility of genetic medicine by developing and disseminating genetic education resources. Expected outcomes: Establishment of the Slovene-Italian genetic network which would contribute to the improved access and quality of genetic services in the region.
