The platinum complexes [PtX2(η2−dppm)] (X = CI, Br, I) and [PtCI2L2] (L2 = dppe, 2 PPh3, 1,5-cod) react with EtO2CCHN2 to give the racemic monoalkyl complexes [PtX(CHXC02Et)L2] in high yield. Addition of EtO2CCHN2 to [PtCI2{(−)-diop}] gives a 3:1 mixture of diastereoisomers of [PtCI(CHCIC02Et){(−)-diop}] from which the major isomer is readily separated and crystallized; the X-ray crystal structure reveals that the major isomer has the R configuration at the α-carbon atom. © 1991, American Chemical Society.
