The energy retrofit of the historical heritage requires high consideration and respect for its aesthetic and monumental values. Soft refurbishments, mainly aimed to preservation, are often preferred to marked actions, which can increase the energy performance of a building but could also erroneously modify its historical meaning. This article illustrates the energy retrofit of a 17th Century building located in Villa del Foro, Alessandria, now the museum of local archaeology. The proposal employs innovative high-tech (active and passive) methods and devices, interacting with the external original façade of the building, without compromising its historical value.
