This paper concerns the experimental and numerical analysis of the scouring effects of flushing waves. In particular, it reports the results of the experiments performed at the laboratories of Hydraulics of the University of Catania by using scale models of flushing gates and aimed at the evaluation of the effects of flushes on deposit beds in terms of deposit profile evolution, deposit advance and sediment masses transported out of the flumes. Furthermore, this paper describes the set-up of a numerical model for the simulation of the effects of flushes and presents the results of the application of the model to the data derived from the laboratory experiments.
