Venous thromboembolism in adolescent age is an uncommon clinical disorder. We report a eighteen diabetic adolescent boy, who developed a left succlavia vein thrombosis. The patient was treated initially with heparin following by dicumarol. A complete recovery was observed after one year of therapy. The laboratory investigations showed an homozygous state for the C677T and A66G mutations. This condition results in mild hyperhomocysteinemia, which is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and venous thrombosis. The folate supplementation induced a normalization of homocysteinemia levels.

Abstract
Venous thromboembolism in adolescent age is an uncommon clinical disorder. We report a eighteen diabetic adolescent boy, who developed a left succlavia vein thrombosis. The patient was treated initially with heparin following by dicumarol. A complete recovery was observed after one year of therapy. The laboratory investigations showed an homozygous state for the C677T and A66G mutations. This condition results in mild hyperhomocysteinemia, which is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and venous thrombosis. The folate supplementation induced a normalization of homocysteinemia levels.File in questo prodotto:
