Intrauterine growth is still the current reference standard for the growth of the preterm infant. Anyway, most of the very low birth weight infants, and especially the extremely low birth weight infants, accrue a significant growth failure during hospital stay. The consequences of this poor growth are still controversial, but it seems reasonable that preventing an eccessive growth failure in the early postnatal period reduces the need of an intense and not-physiologic catch-up growth after discharge.

Abstract
Intrauterine growth is still the current reference standard for the growth of the preterm infant. Anyway, most of the very low birth weight infants, and especially the extremely low birth weight infants, accrue a significant growth failure during hospital stay. The consequences of this poor growth are still controversial, but it seems reasonable that preventing an eccessive growth failure in the early postnatal period reduces the need of an intense and not-physiologic catch-up growth after discharge.File in questo prodotto:
