In order to clarify the relationship between the intelligibility and the effort made during the listening process, psychoacoustics experiments were performed. The auralized speech were derived by binaural impulse responses measured in treated and untreated classrooms of similar geometry and typical classroom noise samples were directly recorded in situ. The playback apparatus is capable of a closer reproduction of the sound field properties and is based on a multichannel transaural approach. A Diagnostic Rhyme Test (DRT) was prepared in the Italian language. The 80 pupils (8 - 10 years) and 42 adults (20 – 50 years) participating in the tests had primarily to choose the correct words in the noise so that an intelligibility rating could be achieved. The system measured automatically the reaction time for the choosing process. This parameter was matched with the intelligibility scores in order to obtain a measure of efficiency, which evaluates the performance of achieving a given intelligibility. This type of analysis is able to add new information not just on the intelligibility obtainable in a classroom, but also on the psychophysical cost required.

Abstract
This type of analysis is able to add new information not just on the intelligibility obtainable in a classroom, but also on the psychophysical cost required.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
