The interaction between the hydrophobic indolinolic nitroxide radical and hydrophilic cyclodextrin derivatives was investigated in water by phase-solubility analysis. Among the studied cyclodextrins methyl-beta-cyclodextrin had the greatest solubilizing activity. Photodegradation of the nitroxide was reduced by complexation with methyl-beta-cyclodextrin . The antioxidant activity of the complex was also investigated. The free form of the nitroxide as well as its complex with methyl-beta-cyclodextrin showed the same degre of protection. Moreover EPR experiments showed a time-dependent decrease in teh EPR signal of both the complex and uncomplexed nitroxide with the fre-radical generator.
