Preparation of various optically active heteroaryl propanols for microbial redox is described. The kinetic resolution of the racemic propanols is obtained via oxidation with Bacillus stearothermophilus ( R-alcohols, ee 74-100%). The reduction of propanones with baker’s yeast gives the S-alcohols (ee 100%).
