Piecewise rigid body mechanics is design to provide a simplified, yet reasonable, approach to the study of the dynamics of shape memory materials characterized by hard elastic moduli. The natural application area for piecewise rigid body mechanics is for MEMS using transforming materials. In this communication we give a short description of the theory, which is the subject of a forthcoming paper.
