We investigate forward and backward second-harmonic generation processes by means of the FDTD technique. We show that the intrinsic numerical dispersion, artificially induced by the method, can strongly affect the generation process. Nevertheless, FDTD captures complex dynamical phenomena such as separatrix crossing.
