The paper is dedicated to an overview of the activity performed during the research project developed by the Italian National Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT), funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and started in 1998. The project is dedicated to the integration of multimedia services on heterogeneous networks interconnected via satellite to permit the delivery of existing multimedia services on a larger geographical area. Starting from a fixed transmission technology, described in the following, some scenarios where LAN or wireless LAN are connected by routers either through a full satellite networks or through a network composed by satellite and wired parts are envisaged. Concerning the last scenario, an ISDN network as well as the Internet may be used, depending on the application requirements. The experiments carried out or planned will be described in detail. Besides the related research activity and the problems to be investigated will be highlighted.

Abstract
Besides the related research activity and the problems to be investigated will be highlighted.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
