This paper provides an experimental comparison of the EMI reduction that can be achieved in power converters whose behavior is controlled by means of suitably modulated timing signals. Strategies for the synthesis of low-EMI switching control waveforms by means of random processes and chaos based modulation techniques are reviewed and their performance in terms of reduction in the power density spectrum peaks is reported. Finally experimental measure of the waveforms applied to a DC/DC (buck) converter are shown confirming the advantages of the chaos-based modulation methodology with respect to EMI compliance.
