This is one of the first works to tackle the simultaneous solution of crew and vehicle scheduling. Extra-urban public transport is considered, and motivations for the joint solution approach are discussed. A mathematical model is provided and a Lagrangean based heuristic is presented. Computational results on real life cases are reported.
