Abstract

The stratigraphic series brought to light at Riparo Tagliente contains Mousterian, Aurignacian and Epigravettian deposits. Lithic raw materials are available within a range of a few kilometres from the site. The various types of flints were exploited in different ways during the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic both in terms of provisioning strategies and technology. Faunas hunted by the Neanderthals belong especially to forest ungulates. The hunting of open environment species becomes more important during the coldest phases. Concerning the Late Glacial we can observe fluctuations in the percentages of cold and temperate climate faunas.
