The ecdysone increase, in the abdomens on the 7th day of culture, suggests that this is not mediated by neuroendocrine centres. The addition of 20-OH-ecdysone to the medium evokes in the abdominal epidermal cells an anticipation of cuticle synthesis and suggests a "trigger" role of this hormone during embryonic development

Abstract
