In some University evaluation problems it can be useful to establish if a categorical variable is more concentrated in a population rather than in another one. For instance the so-called “external effectiveness” of two different Faculties can be evaluated comparing the heterogeneities of the sets of job opportunities. Faculties which offer a more heterogeneous set of job opportunities can be considered more effective. In the present work we propose a nonparametric heterogeneity test, whose test statictic is based on the difference of two sampling heterogeneity indexes.

Abstract

In some University evaluation problems it can be useful to establish if a categorical variable is more concentrated in a population rather than in another one. For instance the so-called “external effectiveness” of two different Faculties can be evaluated comparing the heterogeneities of the sets of job opportunities. Faculties which offer a more heterogeneous set of job opportunities can be considered more effective. In the present work we propose a nonparametric heterogeneity test, whose test statictic is based on the difference of two sampling heterogeneity indexes.
