This work deals with the chronological and geographical spread of trapezoidal microliths in Europe in the proximity of the Younger Dryas - Preboreal transition. From their presentation of the current state of knowledge about this vital category of tool that made innovations in lithic inventories, the authors summarize the record displayed by the Late Glacial techno-complexes recovered in a vast area ranging from the Mediterranean region to the Southern Ukrainian plain. Dramatically falling around the Younger Dryas - Preboreal transition, the utilization of trapezoids reached its highest peak during the Younger Dryas at some sites in Northern Italy, the southern Ukrainian plain and Crimea. The Italian record provides data on the morpho-technical features, and shows a certain variability in all the parameters taken into account.
