A starting point of this paper is the stylised fact according to which there has been an important change in the relation between the dynamics of production and the dynamics of employment in industrial economies, leading some authors to speak of jobless recovery and jobless growth. The dynamics of productivity and its interaction with the dynamics of demand would seem to be the cause of this change. According to the French school of regulation, this pattern can be interpreted in terms of a modification in the accumulation regime, that is, a modification of a set of distribution and technological characteristics determining the macroeconomic dynamics of an industrial system. In this paper we try to tackle this argument, examining the interactions between the productivity, demand and employment dynamics for some OECD industrial economies in the period 1960-90. The analysis carried out has shown that simultaneous changes occurring in demand dynamics (demand components, internal and external, public and private - private consumption and private investment - ) and supply dynamics (technology and capital accumulation) are essential in determining the employment dynamics in the industrial sector of the economy.
