Ferrara: la reintegrazione dei tessuti urbani dopo le ferite della Seconda Guerra Mondiale

The present study deals with gaps left by war bombings in Ferrara urban areas. Since 1943 the city represented a strategic target for Anglo-American air forces: Indeed, it lied along the line where the final allied offensive took place starting from 9 April 1945. Through some selected examples the most frequent transformation and spontaneous reintegration processes have been analysed, with the aim of characterising the period when these processes started to be marked by the same overall approach used, on a different scale, for the Reconstruction Plan. Within this context, gaps will be interpreted not as an artificial element that had to be filled, but rather as a real opportunity to be exploited in order to reach the aims of the Plan, one of which was economic sustainability.

Il contributo è articolato in tre distinti paragrafi cronologicamente consequenziali e strettamente relazionati tra loro: nel primo si è cercato di caratterizzare la natura del danno, quindi della lacuna, dovuta a bombardamento bellico; nel secondo, attraverso alcune esemplificazioni criticamente scelte, si è tentato di qualificare le modalità di intervento nel primissimo periodo della ricostruzione; infine, nel terzo ed ultimo paragrafo, sono sviluppate alcune considerazioni in merito all'interpretazione della lacuna a seguito dell’approvazione del Piano di ricostruzione nel 1949.
