This article presents preliminary results of the project "The plants used by the Guarani in the Atlantic Forest Biome of the South Coast of the Santa Catarina State, Brazil." The goal is the survey of historical and ethnographic sources on the plants used by the Guarani, identifying name, species and systematize the parts used. We recorded 639 plant species of 109 families, raised on four sources (including 28 species not identified). Myrtaceae, Fabaceae, Asteraceae, and Lauraceae Poaceae were respectively the most important families in number of species. The most used parts were fruit, stems and leaves. The highest percentage of use is related to human consumption, medicinal and raw materials respectively. Our results suggest a close interaction between the Guarani and the Atlantic Forest, with strong evidence that its agroforestry model has been extensively applied in the area for over 500 years.
