Abstract

Forensic pathology has long been permeated by the need to increase objectivity and certainty in the desire for an evidence-based forensic medicine not only in research but also in routine forensic practice. The laboratory technologies and methodologies used in forensic pathology are now very advanced and sophisticated. They have been utilized in research but rarely in daily cases. One of the most obvious ways to improve the quality of forensic investigations is by utilizing the most recent innovations in the field of microscopy. Beyond classical microscopes, the autopsy and the related histological examination need to use innovative methods of study. One such method is a new technique for microscopic imaging: confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM).
