This paper is part of an ongoing research project on the translation of children's literature. It focuses on the remediation of the Harry Potter novels. Through a contrastive comparison of the novels and their film adaptations, it is possible to determine what is lost, added and/or altered in the final product to suit the target audience. The aim of this work is to show how, by telling the same story through a different medium, people can transform the original story, thus providing us, sometimes, with a different perspective which reflects different interpretations, opinions and even ideologies.

Abstract

This paper is part of an ongoing research project on the translation of children's literature. It focuses on the remediation of the Harry Potter novels. Through a contrastive comparison of the novels and their film adaptations, it is possible to determine what is lost, added and/or altered in the final product to suit the target audience. The aim of this work is to show how, by telling the same story through a different medium, people can transform the original story, thus providing us, sometimes, with a different perspective which reflects different interpretations, opinions and even ideologies.
