This article aims to identify those conceptual structures that can be recognized as the foundations of an adult education theory, which is reasoned and binding for the practice. In this perspective, the interpretative approach on John Dewey’s writings represents a constant point of reference, because it captures in depth the crucial elements of Dewey’s thought in relation to historical and epistemological dimensions of education, in general, and, in particular, to lifelong education.
