In this work novel wavelength-shifting (WLS) materials were prepared by dispersing 2,5-bis(5-tertbutyl- 2-benzoxazolyl)thiophene (BBOT) and 3-hydroxyflavone (3HF) in different transparent matrices. The dyes were dispersed in polysiloxane films (BBOT), produced by means of spin coating, and in parylene films (BBOT and 3HF) produced by vapour co-deposition. FT-IR analysis was used to study the structure of WLS materials, while their optical properties were characterized by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The transmission, excitation and emission spectra were collected for all the produced materials and analysed to study the effect of the matrix on the optical features of the dye.
