Metamaterial properties of 1D and 2D magnonic crystals are presented according to theoretical calculations. It is shown that some effective quantities characterizing the collective dynamics of one-component and bi-component magnonic crystals allow to describe their dynamic properties in terms of metamaterial ones. An effective rule completing the well-known Bloch rule is discussed for these systems
