The present paper addresses the topic of Ferrara’s architecture during the Ducal period (1471-1598). The historiographical investigation highlighted the need to study with a critical interpretation of direct and indirect sources, the monuments included in the urban context, in order to provide an accurate awareness of local material culture. This work intends to complement previous and current studies on Ferrara and on the transformation of the building fabric. The objective assessment of the state of architecture aims to implement a rigorous historical method for the investigation of the characterizing aspects of architecture itself. Said analysis considers the historical process and the architectural lexicon, as well as stylistic features that regulated the formal and structural composition of single monuments and finally the critical interpretation of adopted project solutions.
