Maltravieso cave (Cáceres, Spain) is well-known thanks to its parietal art that dates from the Upper Palaeolithic. Since 2002, when systematic excavations began in the cave, its archaeological potential as a Pleistocene site was proven. This paper presents the first Upper Palaeolithic data from La Sala de las Chimeneas. That is: dating, paleoecological data, symbolic elements, and faunistic and tecnotipological analysis. Furthermore, the site’s implications in the southwestern Iberian Peninsula Upper Palaeolithic framework are highlighted, as few sites of this chronology (17500-18500 BP) are known. Abstract

In fact, La Sala de las Chimeneas record is the first one known in the region of Extremadura.
