A study conducted in the United States on administrative data reported an increasing volume of hospitalizations with resistant infections in elderly people, with a disproportionate contribution of people aged 85 and older. We here report a clinical case of a 93-year-old comorbid woman admitted to the hospital complaining from fever and vomiting, who showed a severe leukopenia, suggestive for acute sepsis. Enterobacter cloacae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated in the urine, and blood culture resulted positive for Candida parapsilosis. Although appropriate therapy was immediately given, clinical conditions worsened, and the patient died shortly later. The peculiar aspects of this case are discussed.
