Chemometric methods, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cluster Analysis (CA) were applied to retention data obtained in various RP-HPLC chromatographic systems for flavonoid compounds. The objective was to study specific selectivity effects of the different mobile and stationary phases in order to find alternative retention systems for optimum analysis conditions. The PCA loading plots showed that solvent type is the most significant factor in clustering chromatographic data. The score plots displayed an excellent solute grouping, according to molecular structure. These results were very useful in selecting the chromatographic systems giving the greatest quantity of uncorrelated information.
