The paper presents a simplified model in order to estimate the stiffness of open thin-walled structures with elastic warping. The analytical solution provided by the Vlasov theory for non symmetrical cases is obtained for concentrated and uniform torque. A comparison between the analytical solution and the experimentally deformed shape of a body part has been made. The errors prediction between the proposed model and the experimental results is around 10%. It is also shown that a FEM analysis that neglects open-section effects or elastic warping gives errors much greater than 10%.

Abstract
The paper presents a simplified model in order to estimate the stiffness of open thin-walled structures with elastic warping. The analytical solution provided by the Vlasov theory for non symmetrical cases is obtained for concentrated and uniform torque. A comparison between the analytical solution and the experimentally deformed shape of a body part has been made. The errors prediction between the proposed model and the experimental results is around 10%. It is also shown that a FEM analysis that neglects open-section effects or elastic warping gives errors much greater than 10%.File in questo prodotto:
