A new technique, the Dot Immunobinding Assay (DIB) has been evaluated for the detection of Cryptococcus neoformans antigen in serum and cerebrospinal fluid samples collected from patients with AIDS. Patients with and without clinical and microbiological data of cryptococcal infection were included in this study. DIB results were compared with those obtained with the latex test (LA). DIB has shown to be more sensitive than LA test, simple to perform and economic.
