The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Board decided to invest in and further improve Euro Heart Survey Programme which was begun in 1999. The motivation for this decision was based mainly on three points:Europe needs reliable data on cardiovascular disease and the ESC is the body which should provide such data; registries and Surveys are essential to asses the adherence to the Guidelines and to monitor if patients seen in clinical trials on which the Guidelines are often based; a good observational research programme is often requested.
