Abstract

Within the framework of a mutual collaboration with the Remo Brindisi Museum in Lido di Spina (Comacchio, FE), the Archaeometry laboratory of the University of Ferrara had the opportunity to analyze some paintings belonging to the Remo Brindisi collection by image diagnostics, useful and non-invasive techniques to document and study works of art. Raking light images highlight the morphological properties of a surface. Infrared (IR) reflectography can reveal the presence of an under-drawing. Ultraviolet (UV) induced fluorescence emphasizes the presence of varnish layers and of some fluorescent pigment. This paper presents the preliminary results of a diagnostics performed on paintings by Umberto Boccioni, Giulio Turcato and Emilio Vedova. All the images presented in this paper have been acquired by digital cameras equipped by suitable optical filters, selecting radiation bands. The illumination was provided by two halogen lamps for visible and infrared images and a Wood lamp for UV-induced fluorescence.
