The site of Ballabio, situated next to the lake of Como in northern Italy, is part of the numerous site of Italian Bronze age. The deposits are composed by a discrete quantity of human bones, some partially burnt which had been examined separately. The non cremated material, 9 individuals according to the mandibles, was studied with the classical method of the determination of sex and age, and the results are heterogeneous. The cremated material was studied using the work of Gejvall (1970), Wells (1960) and Mays (1998) in order to highlight eventual ritual practices. In another hand, among the material, a cranial fragment had kept the attention of the archaeologists because of its shape, which reminds some characteristics of trepanations, an antique technique of surgery. This fragment was observed macroscopically and microscopically in order to find traces of tools’ use. This research has provided additional information on the ritual practices of the Bronze Age in this region.
