The 8th Conference of the SIA, Società Italiana di Archeoastronomia , was dedicated to these goals, in preparation for the opening of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. The core of the meeting, “MENSURĀ CAELI. Territory, Town, Architectures, Tools“, was the works of MAN based on the MEASUREMENTS OF THE SKY. The subject included therefore the territory and the foundation of towns, the architecture and the tools. The sessions were: Archaeoastronomical Survey: - methods, procedures and results. - use of digital representation and IT systems for knowledge, preservation and management of cultural heritage with astronomical interest. Cultural Astronomy: - reconstruction of astronomical, geometrical and instrumental knowledge of makers, designers and sponsors from antiquity to the eighteenth century; - reconstruction of astronomical events using historical data from the pre-telescopic epoch; - impact of astronomical knowledge on social life, with emphasis on artistic/cultural fields. - problems of preservation, valorisation and safeguards.
