In this age of crisis town planning plays a key role in the process of urban and land transformation. From one side we notice a sad sub-urbanization of central and peripheral areas together with the diffusion of Malls; from the other side we register the increasing success of New Eco-Compact Cities proposing a balanced development of retail, density, efficient public transport, and high quality urban spaces. The Workshop presents the most innovative experiences of Smart Growth Communities strategy at the different urban scales: the metropolis, the city, the neighbourhood.
