The problem of the correct dimensioning and opti- mization of a telephonic system is a well known and brilliantly solved problem from many years, and it looks like there is no need for further analysis. Telephonic systems, even for organization of relevant dimensions, are usually dimensioned at the time of their deployment, and then there is no constant verification that the choices made are consistent to the need of the structure that the telephonic system serves. The migration to the VoIP technology offered to the University of Ferrara the chance to analyze the real behavior of the telephonic traffic, and to verify if the dimensioning was correct and if there were optimization margins after a large number of years from the first deployment of the telephonic infrastructure of the University. During this process we realized that is not easy to find, in literature, examples and data about the dimensioning of real telephonic systems, so we decided to present the result obtained.
