Abstract

The influence of the element shape on the switching of the magnetization in dot arrays has been investigated using a joint in-field magnetic force microscopy analysis and magneto-optical Kerr measurements. The single- or multiple-domain nature of the magnetization at remanence is shown to depend strongly on the aspect ratio of the elements and on how rounded or pointed each element is. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
