Abstract

A low-cost GPS receiver was constructed in the Electronics Laboratory of the Department of Engineering, University of Ferrara, using an OEM card not designed for not designed for topographical use. The receiver was tested in some surveying operations and the results were compared with those obtained in the same conditions with geodetic receivers used for professional applications. Finally, the receiver was then used for the positioning and remote control of an earth-moving machine. In this paper, we describe the characteristics of the receiver, the phase of construction, the field tests and the results obtained.
