The diffusion of the NCCN guidelines fro the management of psychsoocial distress indicate the Distress Thermometer as a valid tool to assess emotional dsiorders in clinical cancer care. An educational training on the use of the DT was introduced in oncology. Referral before (clinical judgement) and after the training was compared. Among 100 patients referred before training 36.6% were non-cases, while after traing and the routine use of the DT, 94% of 120 refreed were cases. The use of DT is importnat to waarant a specific psychiatric intervention for those really needing it.
