C-Galactosyl and C-ribosyl β-amino acids were prepared by one-pot InCl3-catalyzed Mannich-type three-component condensation (3CC) by combining the corresponding formyl C-glycoside, p-methoxybenzyl amine, and a ketene silyl acetal. In each case the reaction was highly stereoselective and afforded only one single product in good to excellent yields. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
